VMS users will need to get a version of tar that works under VMS to unpack these files (as well as `gzip'). We don't have the sources presently, but a precompiled VMS tar binary is on mango.rsmas.miami.edu in pub/VMS-gcc/tools. The gzip sources are available here on prep.ai.mit.edu. You will have to transfer in binary mode, and you may have to use something like the FILE utility to properly set the file attributes (I have no idea if this is a standard utility or not---I know nothing about VMS). The program on mango is *only* able to read tar archives, not write them. --Noah
